What is the difference between wet cleaning and dry cleaning?
The main difference between the two technologies is that while dry cleaning relies on toxic solvents such as perchloroethylene or “perc” to clean clothes, wet cleaning machines use water and specialized, non toxic biodegradable detergents that do not harm human health and the environment.
What fabric types can be safely cleaned using your process?
We can handle all fabric types including cotton, silk, linen, wool, cashmere, rayon, and fabric blends. In fact, extensive research indicates that 99%+ of all garments that can be dry cleaned can also be safely wet cleaned.
Will wet cleaning shrink my clothes?
It is a common misconception that water by itself shrinks clothes. An incorrect combination of mechanical action, high temperatures and water can cause fibres to contract, as can excessive drying. Our washers and dryers have computerized controls that enable us to program the treatment of each load for multiple variables such as water and detergent volume, degree of mechanical action, water and drying temperatures, and moisture levels in dryers. This flexibility allows us to customize and meet the specific cleaning needs of each type of fabric, thereby minimizing any potential for shrinkage. Our trained professionals also use reforming equipment to ensure that each garment’s form is retained.
How will wet cleaning affect my allergies?
Wet cleaning uses specialized detergents that are milder than most home laundry detergents. There are no chemical smells or residue left on clothing that could potentially trigger allergic reactions or asthma symptoms.
Will the dye in my clothes bleed?
Professional wet cleaners use additional tools to help maintain garment quality including:
• Dye-setting agents that reduces bleeding by preventing dyes from washing out of garments
• Mild bleaching agents that can remove tough stains without fading colours
I have read that the dry cleaning industry uses harmful chemicals. I do not want to contaminate my clothes with these toxins. What chemicals do you use?
EcoPure uses a 100% toxin-free cleaning process called wet cleaning. This process uses water – the universal solvent – and biodegradable detergents with high-tech cleaning and finishing equipment. We guarantee your clothes will never be outsourced to a dry cleaner that uses toxic chemicals, such as Perchloroethylene (perc), Drysolv, Green Earth, D5, DF2000, EcoSolv, Solvon, K4, Solvair or Rynex. We also guarantee your garments (with the exception of fur and leather) will always be cleaned in our wet cleaning facility. To demonstrate our commitment to being environmentally friendly and toxin free, EcoPure is recognized by the Toronto Environmental Alliance as a certified wet cleaner.
